Foodstores

We can generate two types of catchment using the RSPM:

  • Pre-calculated. Based on Claritas’ annual consumer survey of household expenditure on food. The survey records which shops are used, spend values, frequency of visit etc. This has around 1 million respondents and these catchments show consumer shopping patterns at the time of interview
  • Real-Time. Using the RSPM to forecast shopping patterns and to replicate the above catchments. Used as a forecasting tool to model performance in future years and the impact of change to the local market

Example Output : The Catchment Analyser

The catchment map below forecasted spend in core convenience goods (food, drink etc) for our example - Tesco, Abingdon. Other product category sales need to be forecast and we use the Sales and Gross Profit Sheet for this.

Tesco, Abingdon
Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Catchments

The Thematic Catchment shows where sales in core convenience goods come from

The Sales & Gross Profit Sheet allows us to forecast sales and GP by product category. Our record of use of space may be the consequence of fieldwork or may be modelled on our experience of other foodstores of similar size for the same fascia
